River cruisers or power boats all have an engine of sorts, even sailing boats may have an engine too. Engines on boats are generally either 'inboard' or 'outboard'. This refers to their positioning on the boat.
Outboard engines are usually self contained engines that drive an inbuilt propeller. They are positioned on the back of the boat and can usually be removed more easily - usually either petrol (two stroke or four stroke) or electric. Inboard engines can be either petrol, diesel or electric these days. They are fixed inside the engine compartment within the boat and connect to a propeller shaft that goes through the hull powering a propeller.
