Ropes

Ropes play an important role when boating and are used in various situations on board. Most boats require mooring lines, otherwise known as dock lines, to secure boats at their moorings. Fender ropes are pre-spliced with an eye in one end to secure fender buoys to the side during mooring and sailing boats use ropes on sails as rigging to raise and lower the main sail and various other sheets.

Marine rope is usually of high quality and many of which are weight tested to provide an accurate breaking load to establish suitability for use.

Ropes can be pre-made from different diameters and in various lengths or cut from a reel for splicing later. The two most popular designs of rope are three strand - three strands of rope spun together to create a single rope. Or braided - an internal cord covered in a multi plait external sleeve.
