Safety on board your boat is certainly something to consider at all times. Personal safety equipment such as life jackets, life rings and search lights are the basics to consider making available to crew along with a well thought through plan of action to resolve situations. Emergency boarding ladders and throw lines, boat hooks, fire extinguishers and carbon monoxide dectectors are accessories worthy of consideration too and there are a host of other safety devices for marine use availble.
The Boat Safety Scheme, or BSS, is another key step in boat safety within the UK. Established in 1995 it is the regulatory body governing safety on board your boat. Much like a car MOT, boats must comply with the BSS regulations. Examinations are every four years and once your boat has passed a certificate is granted. If the BSS examinier fails your boat you will be given a report highlighting the amendents required prior to a certificate being granted. Should you require more information please contact us.
