Freeman Locking Wire

The Freeman locking wire is used in various locations on the boat, primarily to stop the gland locking nut from spinning (either tightening or loosening itself) while the propeller shaft is rotating.

It is also used on the rudder and shaft lock nuts to protect against vibration, corrosion and electrolysis which can be exaggerated if ordinary steel wire is used.
