SpongeBob SquarePants Child Buoyancy Life Jackets Information

The SpongeBob SquarePants children's life jackets are highly visible and robust children's life jackets featuring 100N (Newtons) of buoyancy which makes them technically life jackets as opposed to buoyancy aids. They are great for cruising and feature reflective panels, a whistle, easy fastening buckles, a grab handle and head supports to help keep a child's mouth out from the water.

The SpongeBob SquarePants, highly amusing, fun, yet safe design may help to positively distract your child's preconceptions that a life jacket is a 'fun preventer'! Instead, the Sponge Bob Square Pants life jacket can allow your child to enjoy being SpongeBob for the day! (Just don't point out the safety whistle to them until you arrive at your boat, otherwise you'll have a very noisy car journey!).

It can become quite a difficult situation to put a life jacket on to a child that really thinks they do not need, or want, to wear an important part of the safety equipment that the majority of boaters wear these days. Children like to feel free and unrestricted, especially when embarking on a fantastic voyage of discovery onboard their ship on the waterways!

Due to the nature of children's life jackets traditional buoyant foam is always recommended for toddlers and most children as they always provide positive buoyancy and are difficult to damage. Traditional foam life jackets do not rely on inflating gas canisters with a pull cord to inflate, they are always providing buoyancy with their buoyancy foam compartments, this helps to prevent accidentally 'setting off' the life jacket, something that can occur in adult life jackets if you get the toggle caught!

Safety Features of the SpongeBob Life Jackets

The SpongeBob SquarePants life jackets have two designs based on the jackets suitability dependant on your child's weight but both provide:

  • 100 Newtons of buoyancy (an industry standard for life jackets used in sheltered waters e.g. lakes and rivers etc.)
  • The enlarged collar offers increased buoyancy and improved head support
  • Fluorescent yellow outer shell for optimum visibility
  • 3M Retro-reflecting stripes for night time recognition
  • Jacket zip for fastening the life jacket closed
  • Adjustable waist belt with ITW Nexus plastic buckle
  • Adjustable quick-fit crutch strap with plastic buckle
  • Pull cords that can be tighten for better fitting
  • Safety whistle
  • Hanging hook
  • Light weight

The life jackets designed for smaller children also benefit from:

  • A grab handle on the back
  • More supportive crotch strap design

A Buoyancy Aid or a Life Jacket?

The difference between a buoyancy aid and a life jacket is the amount of buoyancy and the ability of the jacket to 'self right' the wearer.

All childrens floatation devices (life jackets, buoyancy aids etc.) are classified as life jackets as any life jacket for those under 30Kg must offer 100N (Newtons) of buoyancy and self right the child. A life jacket keeps the child safely on their back and provides enough buoyancy for use in different river and sea conditions.
