The WaterMota Pre-Crossflow Starter Solenoid is a close replacement for the traditional WaterMota starter solenoid which would have been fitted at the factory and still has the handy 'start' push button on the base.
A starter solenoid works in conjunction with the starter switch, starter motor and battery to run the starter motor. When you turn the key the solenoid engages the starter motor by completing the circuit.
This starter solenoid is a close replacement for the traditional solenoid which would have almost certainly been fitted at the factory by WaterMota and Vedette and still has the handy 'start' push button at the base.
The push button on the bottom enables you to manually complete the circuit and engage the starter motor if the key switch is not working properly or the solenoid has died.
A small modification is required when fitting this new solenoid. The original had an earth connection with a spade terminal, on the current model the earth wire needs to be connected to the metal body of the solenoid.
This is easily achieved by changing from the spade terminal to a ring terminal and placing the securing screw of the solenoid through the ring terminal to make a circuit, possibly adding a washer to secure a good, safe connection.
We can still source the original starter solenoid with the built-in earth terminal if required, please telephone or email us, however, they are very expensive.
The WaterMota solenoid is suitable for the majority of WaterMota Pre-Crossflow petrol engines including the WaterMota Sea Wolf Mk1 and WaterMota Sea Tiger Mk1. The WaterMota Crossflow Solenoid is usually acceptable and a cheaper alternative but would require a small modification to the low tension terminals.
The WaterMota Crossflow engine was generally fitted with the later square starter solenoid.
