Mast Varnishing Projects & Solutions

Preparing

Carefully remove the mast, scrape & sand the old varnish off and sand the mahogany to a smooth, warm brown finish.

Repairing

If the cross member has detached you will need to reattach this as well as you can. Wooden wedges and adhesive can help.

Unfortunately it is not always possible to fix this economically with long lasting effect. A new mast is the better option here.

Protecting

Protecting the warm brown mahogany wood is key.

Apply coats of Wood Impreg to the bare wood so that this varnish soaks deep into the wood grain.

Varnishing

Apply an 80% Varnish and 20% Thinners coat followed by two to three coats of straight Varnish for a long lasting, durable and glossy coat.
