Freeman Shaft Log, P Bracket & Seacock Bolt

The Freeman Shaft Log, P Bracket & Seacock Bolt is a silica bronze bolt (machine screw), washer and nut set, commonly used on most smaller Freeman Cruisers, such as the Freeman 22 Mk1, 22 Mk2, 23, 25, 26, 24 and 27, for attaching the underwater gear.

This silica bronze bolt has various alternative numbers in the Freeman Owners Handbook.

  • For attaching the Shaft Log the bolt is known as SG032 (and the nut is SG033).
  • For attaching the P Bracket the bolt is known as SG012 or SS012 (and the nut is SG010 and the washer is SG011).
  • For attaching the Seacock and Seacock Grid the bolt is known as GV079B (and the nut is GV079A)

Why Silica Bronze Underwater?

Your Freeman was originally built with bronze underwater fittings, therefore it is important not to mix metals and to replace the bronze fixings with the same material. Mixing metals on your boat underwater will cause electrolysis and the weaker of the metals will disintegrate.
