Ring Smart 12V Battery Chargers

The fast, safe way to correctly test, recondition and charge your lead-acid 12V battery, the six stage charging cycle is designed to ensure your battery is charged to the optimum condition.

These battery chargers make ideal companions for your boat batteries, whether they be engine start batteries, domestic leisure batteries or electric outboard batteries. They are easy to use yet thorough and packed full of features. Both models have won the Motor Boats Monthly August 2010 Battery Charger Best Buy award.

The Ring smart chargers come complete with a fixed power cord, 2 metre output leads with heavy duty crocodile clips, a built in storage compartment for the cables and a neat carry handle. These features make the unit compact and tidy when stored.

As a guide the smart charger 8 will charge from 2-8 amps and is suitable for batteries up to 100AH and the smart charger 16 will charge from 2-16 amps and is suitable for batteries up to 200AH.

The six charging stages include:

1. 'Desulphation' - Pulse charges to allow the recovery of a sulphated battery.
2. 'Soft start' - Sensitive charging for deeply discharged batteries.
3. 'Bulk' - Charges the battery at a constant current up to 80% of its capacity.
4. 'Absorption' - Charges at a constant voltage with the current reducing until the battery reaches 100% capacity.
5. 'Battery reconditioning' - Following the 'Absorption' stage the Smart Charge conducts an automated battery discharge test. If further charging is required the battery recondition function is selected. This function can revive a deeply discharged state (subject to condition).
6. 'Float' - Maintenance charging to ensure your battery is fully charged. When in this stage the battery can be left connected to the Smart Charge indefinitely.

An easy to read front panel displays relevant information in a series of LED status indicators and an LCD display which shows voltage and current, and also highlights any faults with a series of codes.

The 'Rapid Charge' function allows you to charge your battery in three easy steps:

1. Identify your battery size.
2. Identify the maximum recommended Rapid Charge setting for the battery size (colour coded chart supplied).
3. Press the Rapid Charge button until the correct charge setting is selected.
