The WaterMota Petrol Engine Flywheel Ring Gear is located on the flywheel and engages with the WaterMota Starter Motor in order to rotate the flywheel when starting the engine.
A ring gear can, over time, become worn owing to the abrupt forces the 'teeth' can be put under during the engine start process. On inspection, you may find older ring gears to have worn down 'teeth', or even missing 'teeth', both of which can affect the starting process. It is more common to find that the 'teeth' on the starter motor may have worn away rather than the ring gear so do check both items.
This is, in principle, quite straightforward. You will need to remove the ring gear and measure the flywheel external diameter which will provide you with the internal diameter of the ring gear. For example, if the flywheel's external diameter is 10", then the ring gear's internal diameter will be 10". Please note that it is not very accurate to measure the internal diameter of the ring gear you remove from your engine as the tolerances are too fine for this method.
We keep in stock the most common ring gears for the Freeman Cruiser installations so if you are not able to see a ring gear suitably sized here then please contact us.
