In 1928 Leslie G Harris, at 23, founded The Midland Trading Company manufacturing brushes in the heart of Birmingham, England. Later, renaming to L.G. Harris & Co Ltd., Leslie moved the companies manufacturing premises to Stoke, England in 1937. Here they began making brushes from handle end to brush tip, a bold move at the time!
So proud of the paint brushes they made that in the 1950's their marketing slogan was 'The paint brush with the name to its handle', with the idea of ensuring painters requested a Harris brush for all their painting needs. Moving to Bromsgrove in 1959, into purpose built buildings, lead Harris to becoming a household name in the UK paiting market. Harris was awarded the Royal Warrant in 1961 for supplying painting and decorating brushes to the Sandringham Estae and Windsor Castle.
Over the following years Harris grew stronger and their product range grew with it. Taskmasters, an economic, but good quality paint brush range was born in 1988 to fill a widening gap in the market for DIY painters. During development, and strong customer focused research, Harris realised that bristle loss was one of the main issues painters were frustrated with. To combat this Harris launched the NoLoss brand of paint brushes in 1993. A guarantee against loss of paint brush bristles whilst you paint - this is still a firm favourite today.
In the 2000's Harris made bigger steps forward by entering into the professional market with brands such as the Harris T-Class, designed for expert decorators and builders. From demand of professionals the Harris ID Gel Oval range of paint brushes were launched. A unique and comfortable handle design meshed with a precise, cutting-in, brush head for the building trade. Harris brushes joined forces with JCB to launch a fresh new brand into the professional paint brush market with a leading UK construction tools company.
The future for Harris UK paint brushes was cemented in 2016 when a large Norweign painting and decorating manufacture acquried the brand with the idea of keeping Harris at the top of the paint brush pile. Focusing on quality paint brushes, paint rollers and painting tools Harris continues to strive for the perfect paint finish no matter what job needs doing.
