Jabsco 7884 Water Pump Cam Plate & Wearplate

A replacement Jabsco engine water pump 7884 cam plate and wearplate that compresses the impeller in the correct manner when rotating to create suction for the water to be pumped. The cam plate is held in place with the Jabsco 91003-0010 Water Pump Screw.

The wearplate sits within the pump, providing a smooth surface for the rubber impeller to rotate, protecting it from damage as it spins.

As the rubber impellers spin rapidly in the pump between the faceplate and the wearplate the constant rotation does cause wear. Significant wear can reduce the efficiency of the pump so should be replaced on a major service.

Do I need a new Boat Engine Water Pump Wearplate?

To ensure the engine is continually water-cooled by the pump it is important to service the pump regularly. The water pump wearplate is integral to the efficiency of the pump. In order for the vacuum in the pump to build, so water can be pumped, the wearplate must be in good working order, and should generally have a flat surface on the inside face for the impeller to rotate on.

If the wearplate wears it can distort the impeller and wear the impeller out more quickly. Wear on the inside surface of the water pump wearplate generally looks like circular cuts or grooves, particularly where the impeller blades have been rotating. If there is signs of wear a new wearplate may be the way forward.

Why does a Boat Engine Water Pump Wearplate Wear?

Boat engine water pump wearplates can wear over time as the rubber impellers spin rapidly in the pump housing between the faceplate and the wearplate, the constant rotation can cause wear.

Wear on the wearplate usually looks like circular cuts or grooves having been cut into the wearplate by the impeller rotation. The wearplates should generally have a flat face on the inside surface, so the impeller can rotate freely. Significant wear can reduce the efficiency of the pump, and can even prevent the pump pumping water so should be replaced on a major service.
