Freeman Veneered Plywood Information
Sustainably sourced Freeman veneered plywood boards are useful for replacing the cockpit side panels on many of the and are also useful for woodwork projects on board.
The frame work of Freemans was generally built in various types of mahogany (various other lighter woods may have been chosen to order at the time of manufacture). Cupboards and partitions were built on an internal frame, covered with 4mm Freeman ply and edging.
The 9mm Freeman woodwork boards were generally used on the cockpit side panels. All Freeman ply is from specially licensed trees, you may notice the earlier boats (Freeman 22 Mk1 for example) had a figured finish, and as the years went on, you will see that the veneers became straighter in grain. This was due to the availability of trees and the length of time of growth in managed forests to help maintain the supply sustainably and protect the environment.
What sizes are the Freeman Veneered Plywood Boards available in?
Each Freeman veneered plywood board measures approximately 8x4ft and are available in 4mm and 9mm sheets.

Can I order smaller sizes of the Freeman Veneered Plywood Boards?
Yes, we can also usually arrange to cut boards to square foot sizes. Please call ahead with the measurements and to place your order. Please note that we will be unable to cut boards to measure while-you-wait so do plan ahead!
Will I be able to match the grain and colour of my existing boards?
It is important to realise that all wood products are natural and so have their own unique features that we do not have control over; wood grain can vary in all sorts of shapes and directions. However, we work hard to source the 'Freeman mahogany' colour and design that best suits the styling we all love on board to keep the Freeman quality alive!
Are the Freeman Veneered Plywood Boards Finished?
The Freeman Veneered Plywood Boards are unfinished to allow you to cut, prepare and varnish when ready.
