Freeman Cruiser Deck Filler Fixing Kit

The Freeman Cruiser replacement deck filler kit allows you to convert a Freeman Cruiser with a 2" fuel filler deck fitting and a 2 1/4" fuel tank fitting to a 2 1/4" deck fitting to match the fuel tank and accept 2 1/4" Fuel Filler Hose.

The Freeman Cruiser replacement deck filler kit includes a chrome deck filler, fixing plate, fixing bolts, and hose clips for the installation of the fuel filler hose. This kit does need installation so it is important it is fitted by a competent person with good mechanical knowledge. Tools for cutting a larger hole in the deck are also required.

What is the Freeman Deck Filler Kit designed to achieve?

This deck filler kit is designed to replace the Freeman Cruiser 2" deck fillers (as pictured above) found predominately (but not always, so do measure your boat!) on Freeman 23's and later Freeman 22 Mk2's.

Originally, the boats fitted with this 2" deck fitting are likely to have had a hose converting the 2" (deck filler) to the fuel tank, which usually measures 2 1/4". These days no such 2" to 2 1/4" hose is available, so it is more suitable to convert the deck filler to 2 1/4" so that a single diameter filler hose can be installed.

If I have the original 2" Freeman deck filler fitted do I need to convert it to the 2 1/4" version?

The main reason for converting from the original 2" deck filler to the 2 1/4" deck filler is that there are no suitable hoses available when a replacement is necessary. If your deck filler hose requires replacement because of signs of wear and tear, or your Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) Examiner has raised this in your examination, then this conversion is usually the way forward.

Why does the Deck Filler Fitting Kit require a fixing ring?

The original Freeman 2" deck filler has a wide diameter fixing plate. The new 2 1/4" deck filler has a smaller diameter fixing plate. This means that the original screw holes do not match up for installation. Therefore the stainless steel fixing ring extends the reach of the new deck filler so that you can cover the original holes and drill new holes for fixing.
