Changing the oil in a J-Type Gearbox should be a regular maintenance job. There are lots of mechanical components within the gearbox that require good, clean oil and should never be run dry. Replacing the oil helps to remove particles that can damage the gear mechanism and should help to prevent substantial repair.
Please note: Do NOT use gearbox oil in a J-Type Gearbox. EP90 or equivalent gearbox oil WILL cause significant damage to the internal workings so it is important to use the correct oil.
