Freeman Smiths Fuel Level Gauge with Chrome Bezel

The Freeman Smiths Fuel Level Gauge with Chrome Bezel is a classically styled black gauge with white writing, an analogue white needle and a shiny chrome bezel, it is in the same style as the original gauges fitted to Freeman Cruisers.

The fuel level gauge has a scale from empty to full, marked as 0 - 1/2 and 4/4, to show you the amount of fuel in your tank. The gauge requires a level sender to be fitted inside your tank, which unless you have one already can be tricky to fit.

Freeman Smiths Fuel Level Gauge with Chrome Bezel Installation

The gauge requires a 52mm hole and will fit panels with a thickness from 0.5mm to approximately 15mm (although the bracket can be manipulated to fit larger thicknesses), this is achieved thanks to the long threaded studs and fixing plate used to lock the voltmeter in position.

The Smiths fuel level gauge needs to be wired up to a positive feed via a 3A fuse and Freeman Smiths Negative Earth Voltage Regulator (to reduce the voltage to a stable 10v) from the ignition switch. The second terminal is wired directly to the tank level sender.

It is important to disconnect the battery before installing electrical gauges.

Can I fit a fuel level gauge to my Freeman Cruiser?

It can be very difficult to fit a fuel level gauge and sender to a boat that has not had a fuel level gauge and sender before, it is not a DIY job, great care needs to be taken with the fuel and fuel vapour.

It is especially difficult when fitting a fuel sender to a cylindrical tank as found on many Freeman Cruisers. You will need to make a mounting flange to account for the shape of the tank before you can mount the sender flat on top of the mounting flange.

If you are replacing a fuel level gauge and/or fuel level sender then the installation is fairly simple. Great care should be taken when working with any fuel and fuel vapour, the installation must be undertaken by a competent person.
